COLUMBIA, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has closed the conditionally approved clam and oyster beds within Broad Creek and Jenkins Creek in Beaufort County.
"All of these harvesting areas will remain closed until water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are suitable for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's shellfish sanitation program.
A map showing all of South Carolina’s shellfish growing areas is available on DHEC’s website at: http://www.scdhec.gov/sfmaps. For more information about shellfish, see DHEC's shellfish webpage at: http://www.scdhec.gov/shellfish.
