COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Six schools across South Carolina have earned the Healthy Schools Award designation for 2012, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
The S.C. Healthy Schools Award program is a collaborative effort between DHEC and the S.C. Department of Education that emphasizes the connection between good health and learning. "We at DHEC congratulate each school that met the S.C. Healthy School Award criteria and thank them for their interest and efforts toward improving the overall health and well-being of their students and staff," said Jay Daniels, DHEC's coordinator for the Healthy Schools program. "The designation indicates that they have implemented the policies, practices and programs to help students make healthy choices and practice healthy behaviors in school and beyond."
The schools earning the designation are:
"The S.C. Department of Education congratulates the Healthy School Awardees for creating a safe and healthy environment that supports student learning," said Lynn Hammond, S.C. Healthy Schools program manager for the SCDE.
Applications for the S.C. Healthy Schools program can be submitted online through the S.C. Department of Education's website at ed.sc.gov/Agency/os/Health-and-Nutrition/Healthy-Schools/SCHealthySchoolsAward.cfm. Applications can be submitted anytime.
