Emergency exercise tests medicine dispensing

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control and numerous emergency response partners will participate in a Nov. 1 exercise to test the ability to quickly and efficiently distribute antibiotics to large numbers of people, the agency announced today.

The emergency preparedness drill is intended to help DHEC establish "point of dispensing" sites that provide medicines in the event of a natural or man-made public health emergency. Residents near Lexington County's Ball Park Rd. will see signs, traffic control cones and several tents being used during the exercise.

There is no actual emergency; it is only a drill.

Who: S.C. DHEC, Lexington Co. Emergency Management, Lexington Co. Emergency Medical Services, City of Columbia Metropolitan Response System, the S.C. Medical Response Corps. and the area's Community Emergency Response Team
