DHEC reopens shellfish beds in Charleston County

COLUMBIA, S.C. � The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has reopened shellfish beds previously closed due to the sewage spill at Sullivan�s Island in Charleston County, the agency announced today.

�Shellfish tissue sampling results indicate that the portions of the Intracoastal Waterway northeast of the Ben Sawyer Bridge to the confluence with Conch Creek and all of State Ground S-217 are now safe for harvesting,� said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC�s Shellfish Sanitation Section.
