COLUMBIA - S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control Director Catherine Templeton has announced the agency is working with the United States Department of Agriculture as the USDA seeks nationwide input into modifications for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). DHEC has today released its findings to the USDA from input collected through public meetings held by DHEC around the state.
In her letter to the USDA, Director Templeton wrote, "We wholeheartedly agree that access to a variety of healthy foods at SNAP retailers is fundamental to the effectiveness of this critical nutrition assistance program."
"As a partner in nutrition, we applaud your efforts ... and we sincerely hope the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) will follow through with meaningful changes to SNAP."
