S.C. to Hold Public Engagement Session on the State Energy Plan and EPA's Clean Power Plan

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and S.C. Office of Regulatory Staff/Energy Office will host several public engagement sessions throughout the state to provide information on the State Energy Plan and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Clean Power Plan.

The first of four sessions will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Lowrimore Auditorium, at Francis Marion University [4822 E. Palmetto St, Florence, S.C. 29506]. Future dates and locations will be announced at a later time.

On Aug. 3, 2015, under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act, the EPA released the final rule on the Clean Power Plan for existing power plants. The final Clean Power Plan rule requires each state to develop and submit within three years its own plan for reducing carbon emissions. The upcoming joint engagement sessions will provide an overview of the EPA's final rule and its content, as well as an opportunity for the public to provide feedback on S.C.'s energy future.
