DHEC Vaccine Programs: Eligibility

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) offers immunization programs for eligible adults and children.

If you or your child has health insurance, you should maximize your health insurance benefits through your medical home. DHEC is unable to bill private health insurance.

Adult Vaccine Program Childhood Vaccine Programs
Description One statewide program with selected vaccines in some health departments. Two distinct statewide programs: (1) Federal Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) and (2) SC State Vaccine Program. These programs are offered at DHEC, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), Rural Health Clinics (RHC) and many private provider offices. Vaccines required for daycare and school in South Carolina are included in these programs.
Eligibility Criteria
  • 19 years of age and older
  • Uninsured (no health insurance)
  • Underinsured (health insurance does not pay for vaccines)
  • Birth through 18 years of age
  • Medicaid - enrolled in Medicaid (VFC program)
  • Uninsured - no health insurance (VFC program)
  • American Indian/ Alaskan Native (VFC program)
  • Underinsured - health insurance does not pay for vaccines (VFC and State programs)
  • Insured Hardship - insured with deductible that has not been met and cannot afford to pay for vaccine (State program)
