Murrells Inlet Conditionally Approved shellfish beds reopened in Georgetown County
COLUMBIA - The conditionally approved shellfish harvesting areas in Murrells Inlet in Georgetown County have reopened, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has announced.
“Water quality tests show that bacteria levels are now acceptable for shellfish harvesting in the Murrells Inlet conditionally approved areas,” said Charles Newell, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Program.
The shellfish beds had been closed since Oct. 10 because of rainfall and the potential for contamination.
