Living Well program helps chronically ill
COLUMBIA – A "Living Well" workshop will be offered in the Upstate starting in October, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
"This six-week workshop is designed to help those living with a chronic health condition such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, emphysema, chronic back pain or arthritis,” said Redonia Thomas, social work director for DHEC's Region 2 Public Health, which serves Cherokee, Greenville, Pickens, Spartanburg and Union counties. "Living with chronic pain or a long-term illness can be extremely challenging.
"Finding better ways to cope with your situation and learning to manage your health can foster a greater quality of life," Thomas said. "Family members, friends and caregivers are also welcome to attend with anyone who has a chronic health condition."
Program topics include:
- Setting achievable goals
- Making daily tasks easier
- Relaxing and managing stress
- Finding support and solutions
- Working with your health care team
The program begins Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the St. Mark United Methodist Church, located at 911 St. Mark Rd. in Taylors.
