Charleston County shellfish growing area reopened

COLUMBIA - Shellfish growing area 9B in Charleston County has been reopened, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

"This area has been reopened because water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation program. "The area was closed due to potential contamination by heavy rains."
