Environmental Excellence program recognizes industry

COLUMBIA – Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) has been recognized as one of the newest members of the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program (SCEEP), the state Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced today.

“The facility has shown a commitment to excellence by utilizing its environmental management system to manage programs and foster continual improvement in its environmental performance,” said Bob King, DHEC’s deputy commissioner for Environmental Quality Control.

“FCCC was admitted to the program for its zero waste to landfill efforts, a pilot program initiated by FCCC’s parent company, Daimler Trucks North America,” King said. “The intent of their program is to become 100 percent landfill waste-free by 2010. As of Dec. 31, the company had achieved a 90 percent waste-free status.

“FCCC demonstrates leadership commitment toward DHEC’s goal of improving South Carolina’s environment,” King said.

SCEEP is a voluntary initiative designed to recognize and reward South Carolina facilities that have demonstrated environmental performance through pollution prevention, energy and resource conservation, and the use of an environmental management system.

DHEC has supported the program since its creation in 1997 and there are 31 members. For more information, visit the Web pages at: http://www.scdhec.gov/sceep/. Christine Steagall serves as program coordinator for SCEEP. She can be reached at (803) 896-8986, or steagacl@dhec.sc.gov.
