Conditionally approved Murrells Inlet shellfish harvesting areas closed
COLUMBIA - The conditionally approved shellfish harvesting areas of Murrells Inlet in Georgetown County have been closed as a precaution due to excessive rainfall, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.
"The areas will remain closed until water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Program.
