Numerous shellfish growing areas closed

COLUMBIA - Shellfish growing areas 10A and 11 in Charleston County, and 13 through 17 in Beaufort County have been closed as a precaution due to excessive rainfall, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

“The areas will remain closed until water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting,” said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Program.
