Four shellfish growing areas reopened

COLUMBIA - Shellfish growing area 11 in Charleston County, and areas 13, 14 and 16B in Beaufort and Colleton counties have been reopened, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

"These areas have been reopened because water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation program. "The areas were recently closed due to potential contamination by heavy rains."
