Some Beaufort County shellfish growing areas reopened
COLUMBIA – All approved waters in Growing Areas 15, 16A and 17, including the Conditionally Approved Areas in Battery Creek and Jenkins Creek, have reopened for shellfish harvesting, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.
"These areas have been reopened because water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation program. "These areas were recently closed due to potential contamination by heavy rains."
