Vital records office hours changes in four counties
COLUMBIA - Vital records offices at health departments in Abbeville, Saluda, Edgefield and McCormick counties will be changing days of operations July 20, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“The vital records offices in Abbeville and Saluda counties will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” said Becky Campbell, director of DHEC’s Region 1. “In McCormick and Edgefield counties, the vital records offices will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The hours of operations will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a brief amount of time set aside for the staff to have lunch.”
Campbell said the change in days of operations for birth and death certificates was needed due to reductions in staff and budgets.
“We do apologize for the inconvenience to our residents,” she said. “This schedule was set up to minimize the amount of time each of the vital records offices will be closed. It will also minimize the amount of travel the public will have to make to receive birth or death certificates if they have to go to another county. The main vital records office in Columbia will remain open every day during the week if anyone feels like they do not want to wait. The hours of service at the state office in Columbia are 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.”
Campbell said the vital records staff perform a wide variety of duties within the health departments including getting charts for the nursing staff and preparing patients to be seen.
