Public swimming pool workshop set for Upstate area

COLUMBIA - A workshop for public swimming pool owners and operators will be held March 11 in Duncan, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

“This will be an opportunity for public pool owners and operators to learn how to prevent recreational water illnesses, share questions and answers as well as discussing changes in regulations and inspection forms,” said Jim Ridge, DHEC’s recreational waters compliance coordinator. “Since seating is limited we are requesting reservations.”

Ridge said the workshop will be held at the BMW Center at the Tyger River campus of Spartanburg Community College, located at 210 Commerce Court in Duncan. Sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. Among the speakers will be a representative of the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ridge said public swimming pools include those at hotels, motels, apartment complexes, condominiums and community pools in subdivisions.

Reservations to attend the workshop should be e-mailed to Ina Richards at or by calling Richards at (864) 260-5569.
