Fort Mill residents urged to avoid Jackson Branch

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The public should avoid contact with the water of Jackson Branch around and downstream of the site of Monday's tanker accident on Interstate 77 in Fort Mill, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

According to information that DHEC has gathered, gasoline entered the branch after the tanker accident. An environmental contractor responded to the accident site and clean-up activities are underway.

Pets should also be kept away from waters around and downstream of the accident site.
