DHEC reopens Murrells Inlent clam and oyster harvesting areas

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Murrells Inlet's clam and oyster harvesting areas have been reopened, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

"These areas have been reopened because water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are suitable for clam and oyster harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation program.

According to Pearson, all approved harvesting beds along the coast are open except Broad Creek on Hilton Head Island.
