Burnside Elementary School project named to All-Health Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Healthy Me Health Club project at Columbia's Burnside Elementary School has been named to the All-Health Team, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

"The Healthy Me Health Club's slogan is 'Healthy me is who I want to be,'" said Joann Minder, All-Health Team program coordinator. "The students and teachers in the club participate in a variety of activities that promote healthy living and will impact their lives for years to come."

According to Minder, students in the club make individual pledges to exercise and eat healthy. Members make frequent announcements at school along with presentations during PTA meetings and community events.

"The students promote their message of eating healthy during lunch by challenging all of the students sitting at their table to eat all the fruits and vegetables on their tray," she said. "They also keep a journal to track the food they have eaten and discuss it each day."

DHEC, WIS-TV, and BlueCross-BlueShield of South Carolina sponsor the All-Health Team. Each month, the partnership recognizes an individual or youth group promoting health in their community. For more information, visit the All-Health Team website, call Minder at (803) 545-4501, or e-mail her at:
