DHEC closes some Beaufort County clam and oyster harvesting areas

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The conditionally approved clam and oyster harvesting areas along Broad Creek have been closed due heavy rainfall, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

"The areas will remain closed until water quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are safe for shellfish harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation program.
