Earth Day to be celebrated April 22

COLUMBIA – South Carolinians are encouraged to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Earth Day set for April 22, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

“Earth Day is the perfect time to reflect on environmental gains that we have made and to commit to doing more to preserve and protect South Carolina’s environment,” said DHEC Commissioner Earl Hunter. “Each of us can and should do our part every day by reducing waste and recycling, conserving water, saving energy and preventing pollution.”

Hunter urged residents to participate in Earth Day events at their schools, businesses and communities.

“DHEC will hold its third annual Earth Day Awards program April 21 at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia,” Hunter said. “The program recognizes individuals, schools and businesses that make every day Earth Day.”
