DHEC consolidates some childhood vaccination clinic sites
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Region 8 public health departments, covering Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties, will offer childhood vaccinations only at the Bluffton Health Center and the Hampton County Health Department beginning in July, the agency announced today.
“The changes will allow our region, in a time of decreasing resources, to continue to offer the highest quality of public health service,” said Dr. John Simkovich, interim public health director for DHEC’s Region 8 public health. “We are focusing our resources in the areas of highest demand and greatest need for services.”
Dr. Simkovich added that adult vaccination services will not be impacted by the consolidation. DHEC provides childhood immunization services through the Vaccine For Children (VFC) program. Administrative fees range from $13 to $39 for most childhood vaccines, depending on the number of immunizations needed. Medicaid will cover this charge for those who are eligible.
