DHEC and FDA conducting river dye study

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will be injecting harmless red dye into the Beaufort River on Sept. 26.

The red dye, which acts only as a tracer, will be injected near the Port Royal Marina. The dye will be used to measure where the Port Royal Wastewater Treatment Plant's discharge travels during different tide levels.

The dye should be diluted by the end of the next day.
