DHEC lifts Edisto Island swimming advisories
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Swimming advisories issued Wednesday for two sections of Edisto Beach have been lifted, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“Water samples indicate bacteria amounts in the affected area 200 feet above and below the beach access at Ebbtide Street, and 200 feet above and below the end of Yacht Club Road have returned to acceptable levels,” said David Payne of DHEC's Region 8 Environmental Quality Control office, which serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. “The advisory was originally issued due to heavy rains in the area earlier this week.”
