Hearing aid specialist application deadline set

COLUMBIA, S.C. – People who want to take the qualifying examination for licensure as a hearing aid specialist have until Feb. 10 to submit an application and a $95 fee to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the agency announced today.

“The written portion of the examination will be administered on March 13,” said Chris Stephens of DHEC’s Division of Health Licensing. “Those who pass the written portion of the examination will be able to take the practical portion on May 15. Applicants must pass both the written and practical portions to qualify for licensure.

“Anyone, including temporary permit holders or those who previously took the examination and did not pass, may apply to take the examination,” Stephens said. “Anyone who fits and sells hearing aids, other than a South Carolina licensed medical doctor or audiologist, must possess a current hearing aid specialist license or temporary permit issued by DHEC.”

Those who wish to take the examination should contact Stephens at (803) 545-4228, or via email at:
