DHEC changing health department hours in Abbeville, McCormick
COLUMBIA, S.C. –The Abbeville County and McCormick County Public Health Departments will change their hours of operation effective Feb. 1, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“Cuts to public health budgets have forced us to reduce staff in recent years and we believe this move will increase efficiency and make better use of our remaining staff,” said Becky Campbell, Ph.D., health director for DHEC’s Region 1 public health office, which serves Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee and Saluda counties.
The Abbeville County Public Health Department will open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The McCormick County Public Health Department will open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phone calls to both locations will be forwarded for continued service five days a week.
According to Campbell, clients in Abbeville and McCormick counties with public health needs can go to any public health department in the state and receive services.
Information on environmental health programs such as food protection, animal bites, general sanitation or on-site wastewater management in Abbeville and McCormick counties is available by calling 1-866-915-3024, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
