DHEC closes numerous clam and oyster harvesting areas

COLUMBIA, S.C.Clam and oyster harvesting areas along the southern third of South Carolina’s coast have been closed due to this weekend's heavy rainfall, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

"All of the clam and oyster harvesting areas from State Highway 174 in Charleston County down to the South Carolina-Georgia line have been closed," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's shellfish sanitation program.
