DHEC names new General Counsel

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Marshall Taylor has been named General Counsel of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the agency announced today.

"Marshall brings with him a valuable combination of legal, environmental, and business experience, which aligns well with our strategic goals," DHEC Director Catherine Templeton said. "We are excited to have him on board and look forward to leveraging both his legal expertise, his background with the regulated community, and his experience as a customer of DHEC."

Templeton said Taylor will oversee DHEC's legal team and Freedom of Information Office, as well as advise the DHEC Board. He will report to Templeton and serve as a member of the agency’s executive management team. His appointment is effective May 14. Taylor replaces Carl Roberts, who announced his retirement during former DHEC Commissioner Earl Hunter's administration.

Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University before working at the Savannah River Site in a variety of engineering and management roles. He earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He comes to DHEC from the McNair Law Firm, where he has been a shareholder since 2006.
