DHEC lifts swimming advisory
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental control has lifted the swimming advisory issued earlier this week on a small section of beach on Harbor Island, the agency announced today.
“Our analysis of the water in the area 200 feet above and below the beach access at Pelican Point shows that bacteria levels have returned to normal,” said David Payne of DHEC's Region 8 Environmental Quality Control office, which serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. “We believe it is safe to resume all recreational activities, including swimming, in that area.”
According to Payne, it is also safe to wade, collect shells and fish in the area.
