2012 Legislative District Cancer Profiles
The "Legislative District Cancer Profiles" are two page summaries containing general and specific cancer incidence and mortality information for each of the 46 Senate and 124 House Districts of South Carolina. Information featured in these profiles includes: number of new cancer cases diagnosed; number of cancer deaths; plus an estimated cost of cancer for each district.
The South Carolina Central Cancer Registry provided the incidence data. The Division of Biostatistics provided the mortality data. The estimated cancer cost was calculated from a formula provided by the American Cancer Society.

Reports of the SCCCR
SC Central Cancer Registry Ten Year Report, 1996-2005
"Cancer in South Carolina, USA 1996-2005: South Carolina Central Cancer Registry Ten Year Report" is the first report from the SCCCR containing ten years of cancer data (1996-2005).
This monograph covers the first full ten years of cancer surveillance in South Carolina, and includes data and statistics for cancer incidence, mortality, and survival. This report focuses on fifteen major types of cancer: oral, esophagus, colon/rectum, liver, pancreas, lung, melanoma, female breast, cervix, prostate, bladder, brain, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, adult leukemia, and childhood leukemia. Statistics are also broken down by county.
SC Cancer Facts and Figures, 2004-2005
"South Carolina Cancer Facts and Figures, 2004-2005" is the first report from the SCCCR containing six years of cancer incidence (1996-2001).
This report presents data on cancer incidence and mortality; and provides information on cancer risk factors, stage of disease, screening, and prevention and treatment for thirteen cancer sites: bladder, breast, cervix, colon/rectum, leukemia, lung, melanoma, oral/pharynx, ovarian, pancreas, prostate, NHL, and uterine. There is a special section on Childhood cancer, which provides detailed information on the three major categories of childhood cancer: leukemia, central nervous system, and lymphomas.
SC Cancer Facts and Figures 2001-2002
"South Carolina Cancer Facts and Figures 2001-2002" is the first report from the SCCCR containing combined years of cancer incidence (1996-1998) and projected cancer estimates for 2002.
The report also represents the initial collaboration with the Southeast Division of the American Cancer Society in publishing a "Cancer Facts and Figures" report. It is modeled after the American Cancer Societys annual "Cancer Facts and Figures" publication, which details cancer incidence and mortality across the nation.
This report focuses on six major types of cancer: breast, cervix, colon/rectum, lung, melanoma, and prostate. In addition to statistical data, this report includes detailed information on cancer risk factors, stage of disease, screening, prevention, and treatment in South Carolina. Also included are the American Cancer Societys Guidelines for the early detection of these cancers.
Additional special sections in the report include Childhood Cancer, Oral/Pharynx cancer, and a Modifiable Risk Factors section, which focuses on tobacco use, diet, and physical activity.
Cancer in South Carolina - The Reports of the SCCCR
"Cancer in South Carolina" was designed to provide a statistical summary of the most recent cancer data collected by the SCCCR. Each annual report contains cancer incidence and mortality data for South Carolina. The most recent United States SEER incidence and mortality rates are included for comparison.
Each report provides information on all cancers combined and highlights specific types of cancer. Detailed risk factor, staging, and age-specific information are provided.
The "South Carolina Cancer Facts and Figures 2001-2002" report was done in place of the 1998 Cancer Incidence annual report.
The SCCCR BLAST -- The Educational Training Tool for Cancer Registrars
The BLAST provides updates. clarifications, and Q & A's concerning coding rules and abstracting principles. It is sent to all SC registrars at the beggining of each month. Topics originate from questions generated from SCCCR quality control activities, from hospital registrars, or from changes in standards that need to be communicated in mass.
