Programs & Partnerships

We have developed different programs and established partnerships to reach many different groups of South Carolina citizens. We use these programs and partnerships to raise awareness, encourage behavioral changes, and identify sample policies and ordinances to help improve air quality.

DHEC Programs

The SC Green Guide provides information you can use to better understand a variety of environmental topics and agency programs. This information is part of a call to action for each of us to do what we can to protect and preserve South Carolina’s environment.

It is our environment. It is our responsibility.

The South Carolina Environmental Public Health Tracking (SC EPHT) Program is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program (EPHT) designated to coordinate, establish, and share nationally consistent data and information.

The data collected by this program can be used to help us better understand potential interactions between our environment and our health.

Green Driver Project targets high school driver education classes to discuss the environmental impact of driving. The classroom presentation, conducted by a DHEC staff member, centers on used oil recycling, air and water issues, energy conservation and litter prevention.

In addition to the high school effort, the booklet "Become a Green Driver" targets elementary schools. Even before they drive, when they are riding in a car, students can help protect the environment.

DHEC's All-Health Team is looking for youth who are making a positive impact on the health of their community. Whether it's a research, community education or health advocacy project, the All-Health Team wants to recognize and reward the youths and their leaders for their outstanding work in protecting and promoting health. South Carolina Healthy Schools Initiative is a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Department of Education and DHEC, funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC DASH). This program focuses on improving the culture and climate of schools and the academic achievement of children and adolescents by promoting strategies, programs and services that encourage positive healthful behaviors.

Champions of the Environment wants South Carolina's young people to learn about and protect the natural world. Each year, this program awards more than $10,000 to K-12 students and teachers for environmental action and awareness projects. Maybe you will be the next Champion of the Environment.
