The “Spare the Air” Awards Program
A message from Air Quality's Bureau Chief, Myra Reece...
"The
Bureau of Air Quality is very excited to announce the first annual “Spare the Air”
Awards Luncheon scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at the Seawell’s Restaurant
in Columbia. This event is for YOU, about YOU and the exemplary job that YOU do!
We recognize that many of our partners are implementing positive changes in the
way they do business. We applaud you in your level of commitment and determination
to reduce pollution.
We are proud of all the positive gains made throughout the state thus far and are
hopeful that we can count on you to keep us informed of other innovative and successful
initiatives taking place in your community. Whether big or small, reducing air pollution
begins with a single act. So, please join us in this effort by nominating a business,
community group, peer or an individual for their exceptional hard work for air quality.
Nominations for this recognition are due by Sept. 30, 2008, so please don’t delay.
Let’s keep the momentum going!
Purpose
To recognize environmental leaders (i.e., companies, groups, communities, schools,
local governments and individuals) that have made a voluntary commitment to promote
and practice air quality improvement in South Carolina. Those environmental leaders
nominated should demonstrate continuous environmental improvement through such practices
as energy conservation, behavioral modifications, and other strategies to improve
air quality.
Goals
- To promote a healthier environment through air quality initiatives that are sustainable
and replicable,
- To educate, build awareness, and motivate others to make better decisions about the
environment through air quality improvements,
- To encourage positive behavioral changes that improve air quality,
- To strengthen and build partnerships with businesses, organizations and the citizens
of South Carolina to improve air quality.
