Radiological and Non-Radiological Monitoring Sediments

Sediment samples are collected annually from SRS streams, the Savannah River and stormwater basins. These samples are analyzed for specific radioisotopes such as gamma-emitting radionuclides and alpha/beta particles. Samples are also analyzed for a specified Target Analyte List (TAL) of metals and organic contaminants. Additionally, sediment samples are collected quarterly from offsite locations. Perimeter samples are collected within a 50-mile radius of the site boundary and background samples are collected outside of the 50-mile radius.
