Responding to Oil Spills
DHEC is the lead state agency for oil spills off the South Carolina coast. The U.S. Coast Guard is the lead federal agency. We are both part of a larger, well-coordinated plan that involves many other federal, state and local partners in situations where a response is needed.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service handles response to birds, animals and fish affected by oil spills.
