Areas provided with curbside collection include the City of Charleston, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, James Island, Johns Island, Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, Sullivan's Island and West Ashley.

Charleston County picks up recyclables at the curb for residents in single-family homes in the more populated areas every other week. Residents of apartmenst or condos as well as businesses can take recyclables to one of the locations listed below.

SITES COLLECT: Cans (aluminum, steel), plastic bottles and jugs (#1, #2), glass (brown, green, clear), paper (office paper, brown bags, magazines, mixed paper, newspaper and inserts, cardboard, paperboard, telephone books), used motor oil, filters, motor oil bottles (leave caps on), tires, scrap metal and appliances, lead-acid batteries, Ni-Cd batteries, yard trimmings, oil and latex paint, compact fluorescent bulbs and fluorescent tube light bulbs as well as residential electronics including CPUs, monitors (color and black and white), laptops, hard drives, keyboards, mice, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, adding machines, calculators, telephones (cell phones and cordless phones included), PDAs, pagers, shredders, TVs, VCRs, stereos, radios, camcorders, CD players, DVD players and cassette players -- NOTE: Sites marked with an asterisk (*) also accept oil/gasoline mixtures.

Unstaffed Drop-off Sites  

In addition to the staffed convenience centers listed above, there are more than 35 drop-off sites located throughout the county that accept the following materials: cans (aluminum, steel), plastic bottles and jugs (#1, #2), glass (brown, green, clear) and paper (office paper, brown bags, magazines, mixed paper, newspaper and inserts, paperboard, telephone books). Several locations also accept corrugated cardboard, used motor oil and oil filters as well as electronics. Recycling bins also are distributed at some locations. Compost for Sale

Location: 1344 Bees Ferry Rd., Charleston

DETAILS: Compost sold for $10 per ton. Small quantities are loaded by the individual buyer. Large quantities are loaded with landfill equipment.
