Welcome to the Office's on-line Resource Center! Here you will find many of the Office's posters, fact sheets, activity books, brochures, videos, annual reports, public service announcements (PSAs) and more. Most of these documents are PDF files, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.Printed versions of these documents are available from the Office's Resource Center located at 8911 Farrow Road in Columbia, SC or by calling the Recycling Hot Line at 1-800-768-7348. Environmental Education & Recycling Videos
"Eco-Jeopardy," "Earth Today," "Trashumentary" and "DHEC1: Behind the Oil Change" are DVD programs developed by the Office and other DHEC Environmental Outreach Programs. The four half-hour programs are available together as a set on DVD.- "Eco-Jeopardy" is based on one of the most popular and successful quiz game shows in television history - "Jeopardy!" Using the unique "Jeopardy!" format, "Eco-Jeopardy" features three student contestants who are given an environmental answer and compete to be the first to come up with the appropriate question. The half-hour program, which targets fourth to eighth-grade students, covers a wide variety of environmental topics such as recycling and energy conservation as well as air and water quality in 12 "Eco-Jeopardy" categories. Additional information on each of the answers and questions discussed in "Eco-Jeopardy" is provided (click here). "Eco-Jeopardy" is available as part of the set of DHEC programs available on DVD.
- In addition, "Eco-Jeopardy" also is included in an hour-long program that includes a question and answer session with students from six South Carolina schools and DHEC staff including Commissioner C. Earl Hunter. This hour-long program, which premiered on Earth Day 2008 on SC ETV stations throughout the state, is available on DVD. This version is provided on a separate DVD.
- "Earth Today" is a half-hour program that features student anchors and reporters in a network morning news format. The program, based on the "Today Show," NBC's popular morning news program, provides segments on a variety of environmental issues including air and water quality, energy conservation, recycling and litter prevention. "Earth Today" is available as part of the set of DHEC programs available on DVD.
- Ever visit a landfill? Or a recycling or composting facility? An incinerator? Elementary and middle school students can visit all of these solid waste management facilities without leaving the classroom. "Trashumentary" is a 20-minute program that features visits to each of these facilities with students asking questions to the people who work there. "Trashumentary" is available as part of the set of DHEC programs available on DVD.
- DHEC1: Behind the Oil Change" chronicles the rise, fall and redemption of Dawson Leary, an environmentally conscious high school student, who is caught illegally dumping used motor oil into a storm drain. This 14-minute program mimics the popular teen television programs "VH1: Behind the Music" and "Dawson's Creek." The program is the centerpiece for the "Green Driver Project." "DHEC1: Behind the Oil Change " is available as part of the set of DHEC programs available on DVD.

South Carolina Solid Waste Management Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2008
This report is published annually by DHEC's Division of Mining and Solid Waste Management. It provides an overview of recycling and disposal efforts in South Carolina during fiscal year (FY) 2008 (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008). The on-line report is divided into the following sections:- INTRODUCTION: This page outlines the purpose of the report as well as the table of contents.
- SECTION 1: This section provides a statistical summary of recycling and disposal figures for South Carolina in FY08.
- SECTION 2: This section provides an executive summary of municipal solid waste (MSW) including a definition, how much MSW was recycled, how much total solid waste (TSW) was recycled and recommendations for meeting the state's MSW recycling goal.
- SECTION 3: This section highlights the commodities that make up MSW as defined by South Carolina. For each commodity, a definition and description are given, the recycling tonnages are provided for the past five years as well as, a breakdown of the amount of material collected in each county.
- SECTION 4: This section contains the Used Motor Oil Recycling Report which includes the amount of used motor oil collected and the number of collection sites in each county.
- SECTION 5: This section summarizes the efforts of state agencies as well as state-supported colleges and universities and their waste reduction, recycling and buy recycled efforts.
- SECTION 6: This section details the recycling efforts of the entire state and each of its 46 counties. In addition, recycling and disposal rates -- as measured by the state -- is included for all counties. Finally, full-cost disclosure also is discussed.
- SECTION 7: The sections contains disposal and generation data on construction and demolition debris landfills, listed by county and facility as well as a recycling rate and amount for the entire state.
- SECTION 8: This section summarizes disposal data including remaining capacities for South Carolina's MSW landfills and generation rates for MSW, TSW and industrial solid waste as well as import and export data.
- SECTION 9: This section summarizes information about solid waste planning and demonstration of need.
- SECTION 10: This section contains a listing of permitted solid waste facilities (including but not limited to landfills, transfer stations and processing facilities). The facilities are listed by the county in which it is located, the facility name, the previous landfill designation (if applicable) and the corresponding permit number.
- SECTION 11: The Index references key words in the solid waste report listed alphabetically and details the pages(s) where those key words can be found.
