How can I report recycling efforts?
It’s smart business to recycle. It’s smart business to report your recycling activities (what and how much you recycle). It's also easy to report.
The S.C. Smart Business Recycling Program will offer an improved on-line reporting system that is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. Called Re-TRAC Connect, this Web-based data management system that is provided by DHEC allows businesses to enter, manage and report essential recycling data in a single-window reporting format. Re-TRAC Connect replaces Biz-TRAC.
Reporting for Fiscal Year 2012 (July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012) is currently CLOSED. A new reporting survey will be available when the current fiscal year closes. Check back after July 1, 2013 to learn more about how you can report your efforts and enable the state to reach its recycling goal of 40 percent by 2020.
Companies that are not able to (or do not want to) use the Internet-based program, will be encouraged to complete a fillable Word document during the reporting period.
For more information, please contact Stacey Washington at 803-896-4219.
For users of Biz-TRAC...
Businesses who previously reported through Biz-TRAC will need to register again as part of the switch to Re-TRAC Connect. You will still be able to access any historical data in Biz-TRAC but it will no longer accept new data.
Why should I report recycling efforts?
There are many economic and environmental benefits to recycling. Reporting those recycling activities has many benefits as well including:
- helping recycling businesses and markets grow - and therefore creating jobs and contributing to the state's economy;
- helping businesses make effective and efficient solid waste management decisions;
- recognizing for businesses for their waste reduction and recycling efforts; and
- helping South Carolina reach its goal to recycle 40 percent of the state's municipal solid waste by 2020.
Reporting is done by fiscal year so you need to keep track of your recycling activities from July 1 to June 30. You are encouraged to report your information each year. Recycling data collected from businesses is recorded and included in the annual report confidentially.
