Green Purchasing Initiative

South Carolina state government seeks to further reduce the environmental and human health impacts of its operations by integrating environmental considerations into its procurement process. DHEC, in conjunction with the S.C. Budget and Control Board's Materials Management Office, has developed the Green Purchasing Initiative which recognizes the need to improve green purchasing practices when practicable and cost effective without reducing the safety or performance of a product or service.

'The S.C. Solid Waste Management Annual Report
for Fiscal Year 2008' is available!


"The S.C. Solid Waste Management Annual Report Fiscal Year 2008" is now available.

This report provides an overview of recycling and disposal efforts in South Carolina during fiscal year (FY) 2008 (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008). The report includes: an introduction; a statistical summary of recycling and disposal figures; an executive summary of municipal solid waste (MSW) data and recommendations; data on individual commodities collected and recycled; an overview of used motor oil recycling; a summary of the recycling efforts of state agencies and state-supported colleges and universities; detailed information about county recycling activities; construction and demolition debris statistics; disposal data; information about solid waste planning; a list of permitted solid waste facilities; and a subject index.

S.C. Green Building Directory

The S.C. Green Building Directory (SCGBD) is the one, easy to use, go-to resource for those interested in access to tools for green building in South Carolina.

The goal of the SCGBD is to provide users with information they need to find products and services that support green building practices for new construction or remodeling of residential and commercial facilities in South Carolina and others in the Southeast.

The 'Take Action: Recycle Used Motor Oil Tool Kit'
for teachers is now available!


The "Take Action: Recycle Used Motor Oil Tool Kit" is designed for teachers to introduce used motor oil recycling into the classroom.

For teachers who have received a grant through the Office's Recycling Education Grant Program, any of the activities or lessons provided in this tool kit can be used to meet the used motor oil awareness requirement.
