Sewee to Santee Pilot Inspection Program

This report was commissioned by the Ocean and Coastal Resource Management Division (OCRM) of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and prepared by Sewee to Santee Community Development Corporation (CDC). The report's purpose is to expand on investigations and research, on the status of the onsite wastewater disposal systems in the northern portion of Charleston County from the Sewee Road to the Santee River.

This Onsite Disposal System (OSDS) Evaluation Report addresses core issues and generates essential insights necessary to enable the Sewee to Santee Community Development Corporation, Charleston County, South Carolina to make appropriate decisions as it considers the development of an onsite/decentralized wastewater management system (OMS).

This study showed that there is a need to improve the potable water supply in the Sewee to Santee by the drilling of deeper individual, private wells, or the construction of community wells operated as a utility.

The data show that the soils in most areas of the Sewee to Santee region will support conventional or mound septic systems.

Almost 70% of the members of the Sewee to Santee community surveyed favor the formation of a wastewater management entity.
