Ocean Planning Work Group
Expanding offshore activities and increasing reliance on ocean resources may lead to future conflicts over sand resources, dredged material disposal, military training, ocean outfalls, and offshore energy development, among others. To better prepare and respond to these challenges, a new ocean planning effort has been initiated to explore research and planning issues related to ocean resources in South Carolina. A recently established Ocean Planning Work Group with representatives from federal and state agencies and academic institutions will meet with experts and stakeholders on various issues over the course of the next several years to develop a plan to guide future ocean research, data collection and mapping; policies and decisions of agencies with ocean authorities; and ocean education programs.
