Groundwater Programs - Groundwater Quality Section

The Groundwater Quality Section works with consultants and industrial facilities to prevent groundwater contamination through the use of groundwater monitoring and to ensure that contaminated groundwater is returned to a condition that makes it a useable resource.  Specific duties include:

  • Regulatory oversight for clean-up of releases at facilities permitted by the Bureau of Water and for all petroleum releases that are not from sources permitted by the Underground Storage Tank Program.
  • Provide information on home heating oil tanks, groundwater monitoring of in-ground wastewater treatment systems or dedicated land application systems.
  • Review of "no discharge" permits to determine if sites meet the criteria to receive effluent or biosolids.
  • Regulatory oversight for Department of Defense (DOD) releases that are from sources not permitted by the Underground Storage Tank Program or the Bureau of Land and Waste Management.
  • Provide monitoring well approvals for pre-buys or other environmental assessments not associated with a regulatory program.
