OUR MISSION

Reaching out to support the Bureau's goal of high quality drinkable, fishable, and swimmable waters through the development, implementation and evaluation of Outreach programs, resources, and communication strategies.

2008 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Over 60,000 Fish Consumption Advisory booklets & brochures mailed out statewide (www.scdhec.gov/fish).
  • In June, fish advisory public service announcements aired in Myrtle Beach with a net reach of approximately 33,300 people.
  • A more user-friendly version of the Fish Consumption Advisory website becomes available (www.scdhec.gov/fish).
  • A swimming advisory hotline and website was created (www.scdhec.gov/swim).
  • $14,750 in grants and awards given by Champions of the Environment to 25 schools for carrying out environmental projects
  • $1,200 in saving bonds awarded to12 winners in the Environmental Awareness Middle School Competition, sponsored by Champions of the Environment.  
  • DHEC became a proud partner of EPA’s water efficiency program, WaterSense
  • 10 water utilities serving 1/3 of South Carolina’s population have partnered with the WaterSense program.
  • DHEC provided 12 South Carolina specific environmental messages to Earth Gauge.

  • Manages and evaluates water outreach programs
  • Guides and promotes water outreach programming
  • Partners with internal and external programs to integrate water messages

 

 

 

LynneChampions of the Environment Coordinator

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates the Champions grant award program
  • K-12 & public water outreach
  • Point of contact for the community block grant development response letters for the bureau
  • Assists with the Bureau of Water day at Environmental Quality Control (EQC) School.

 

 

CherylDrinking Water Outreach Coordinator

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates fish consumption advisory outreach
  • Coordinates drinking water outreach
  • Coordinates the Bureau of Water’s portion of Environmental Quality Control (EQC) School
  • Assists with WaterSense / water-efficiency outreach & Champions

 

 

VictoriaNonpoint Source (NPS) Assistance Outreach Coordinator

Job Duties:

  • Swimming advisory hotline and outreach
  • Nonpoint source related outreach and assistance
    • NPS outreach online toolbox and resources
    • MS4/Stormwater outreach assistance
    • Outreach process consultation to 319 grantees

Public Information Coordinator

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates WaterSense / water-efficiency outreach
  • Coordinates MIX meetings
  • Communication strategies consultation to bureau programs
  • Coordinates BOW articles for WEASC and AWWA publications, The Journal, and Through the Pipe
