Watershed Water Quality Assessment (WWQA) DHEC divides South Carolina into 8 major river basins or watersheds. For each watershed, DHEC produces a Watershed Water Quality Assessment (WWQA) that describes a wealth of information through text and maps including: water chemistry, biological monitoring, physical characteristics, natural resources, growth potential, potential nonpoint source contributions and point source discharges.

Within each watershed, DHEC also coordinates:

Each basin has a Watershed Manager that supports watershed-based planning and water quality improvement projects that work towards protecting and restoring our state's waterways.

This approach is stakeholder-focused and adaptive to changing environmental conditions. It encourages the efficient and effective protection and restoration of the State's waterways.
