The Salkehatchie River Basin, located completely
within the State of South Carolina, incorporates 25 watersheds and some 2
million acres. Within the Department's Salkehatchie River Basin are the Salkehatchie
River Basin and the Combahee River/Ashepoo
River/Broad River Basin. The Salkehatchie River Basin extends from the
Upper and Lower Coastal Plain regions to the Coastal Zone region. There
are approximately 1,820 stream miles, 4,679 acres of lake waters, and
129,683 acres of estuarine areas in the basin.
