1. Wastewater Treatment Plant – direct discharger
This type of facility may treat municipal or industrial wastes or a combination of the two. They would discharge the treated wastewater directly to a stream, river or other water body. Other Resource Link

2. Wastewater Treatment Plant- land application/no discharge
This type facility is very similar to the direct discharge, but instead of discharging their treated wastewater to a water body, they would discharge to the land by spraying or some other method of distributing the water.

3. Storm water – Industrial Facility
These facilities fall into one or more of the 11 categories of storm water associated with industrial activities and are required to be covered by an industrial storm water permit. Other Resource Links are listed as follows:

4. Storm Water – Construction Site
These are construction activities involving land disturbance and are required to have permits prior to the start of any clearing or grading activity.

5. Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4)
These are urbanized areas as determined by the latest census, which are required to be covered under an MS4 permit before discharging pollutants to waters of the state.

6. Agricultural facility
An Agricultural Facility is a lot, building, or structure, which is used for the commercial production of animals in an animal facility. These facilities typically require and animal facility management plan, which details how manure produced will be managed. If it is a new facility, it will need a construction storm water permit as well as the agricultural facility permit.

7. Pretreatment Programs
These are Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) that have significant industrial users discharging to their system. The local program issues permits to their industrial dischargers, inspects, monitors, and enforces the program requirements.

8. Satellite Sewer Systems
These are sewer systems that are owned or operated by one person that discharge to a system that is owned or operated by a different person. Satellite sewer systems depend on a separate person for final wastewater treatment and discharge and include systems approved under R.61-9.505.8.
