Information: Application for NPDES permit
SCE&G – VC Summer Nuclear Facility
South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCE&G) made an application for an NPDES permit on November 22, 2010. DHEC is reviewing this application and provides this summary information on the application package.
Site address:
14368 State Highway 213, Jenkinsville, SC 29065
(Junction of State Highway 213 and County Rd 16)
Proposed facility with electric generating capacity of approximately 2214 megawatts
Two new nuclear reactors (approximately 1107 megawatts each)
Operation proposed to begin in year 2016 (Unit 2) and 2019 (Unit 3)
Discharge to the Broad River at the Parr Reservoir:
- Average discharge flow ~21 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 13.5 million gallons per day
- Discharge proposed
- Cooling tower water discharge (98% of discharge)
- Process wastewater
- Liquid low-level radioactive waste, regulated by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Withdrawal information:
- Cooling water intakes on Monticello Lake
- Typical average withdrawal from Monticello Lake: ~83 cfs
