Event/Program Description: The Junior Trailblazer Club is a program designed for 5th grade students in South Carolina. The students participate in four educational, hands-on classes which include South Carolina Wildlife, South Carolina Trees, Outdoor First Aid, and Outdoor Skills. Along with each class there is also a combined fitness component that requires each student to walk a total of 10 miles per week. Pedometers and logs are provided for the students to keep track of their progress. After the classroom portion of the program, the students participate in a hike on the Palmetto Trail where they can put their knew knowledge and skills to use. After each class, hike, and completed fitness component the students will get a stamp to place in their "Passport to Adventure". Once their passports are full, they each receive a Junior Trailblazer pin, and are recognized as official members of the Junior Trailblazer Club.

Event/Program Purpose: The purpose of the Junior Trailblazer Club is to improve the quality of life and general health of South Carolina youth, through inspiration and education. We want to encourage children to be physically active and participate in outdoor recreation activities. By incorporating outdoor education and exercise, we are able to present fitness in a fun new way. To date the program has seen tremendous growth. We are planning on making the program statewide as there is demand for the classes in many regions of the state.
