STD/HIV Prevention Contractors
DHEC’s STD/HIV Division provides contracts to community-based partners to deliver STD and HIV prevention services. These contracts are provided through three major initiatives:
- HIV Prevention funds are provided by CDC to the STD/HIV Division. DHEC awarded funds to community programs through a competitive Request For Proposals process. The five-year funding cycle began in 2005. The overall goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections, focusing particularly on reducing the disproportionate impact of HIV infection in racial/ethnic minority populations.
These efforts use interventions that are targeted to South Carolina’s priority populations identified in the SC HIV Prevention Plan.
- HIV Prevention funds are provided by the SC State Legislature to the STD/HIV Division. Through a contract with the Division, the SC HIV/AIDS Council (SCHAC) delivers Project F.A.I.T.H. (Fostering AIDS Initiatives That Heal). The goal of Project F.A.I.T.H. is to build the capacity of churches and other faith-based entities that want to create local solutions to local problems. The initiative includes the provision of funding for churches and other faith-based entities that seek to make a difference in their local communities and state.
- Syphilis Elimination funds are provided by the CDC to the STD/HIV Division. Through a contract with the Division, SCHAC provides outreach and mobile screening efforts in the Midlands and other areas of the state.
