EMT Certification and Training Information
To become a South Carolina certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a candidate must first successfully complete a SC approved EMT course. To locate an EMT course in SC go to the following link: How to Search for a Course
To be eligible to enter into a SC approved EMT course, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of 17 years of age (MUST be 18 years to take the National Registry Exam)
- Posses a valid high school diploma or GED
- Must satisfy pre-screening requirements in reading comprehension and math. Contact EMT training institution of your choice for further information on this requirement.
- Be physically fit and able to perform all task required of an EMT
For Certification as a South Carolina Emergency Medical Technician, a candidate must submit the following documentation:
- A completed SC EMT application form
- A valid National Registry Certification
- A valid BLS/CPR credential
- Successfully complete the state and federal background check:
